HTC M8 Leak – Bad or Good News?

Timing, they say, is everything. Video appears regularly on the internet to herald the coming of some new product or major company launch. But Geek.com has commented on the most recent unveiling of an over 12 minute video that the blog calls “a perfect example of how not to leak a phone to the Internet.”
This review, filmed on what appears to be the user’s bed, depicts the different functions of the HTC M8 device, which has yet to be released officially. Although the source notes that there was no critical new information about the phone dropped in the footage, it did notice that enough details had been given about the person posting the video to land them in serious trouble.
“Using the name GadgetReviews on YouTube did little to hide the identity of the young man responsible for the video,” the site notes. “One thing is for sure, there’s not going to be another leak coming from this kid.”
Businesses could be understandably angry about this kind of exposure, as it takes some of the power away from the original companies behind its production. However, there might be ways to use unexpected occurrences to your product’s benefit.
Consider some remarks made by the CEO of HBO, Richard Plepler, who discussed how user-password sharing can actually help a brand. In an interview with BuzzfeedBrews, Pleper explained that this effect can be positive, even though it’s technically “beating the system.”
“To us, it’s in many ways a terrific marketing vehicle for the next generation of viewers,” he said.
In the same way, businesses can learn to roll with the punches when it comes to these surprise leaks, as you never know what might catch the public’s interest.
